I heard that Cyber-Tone allows the user to adjust each pitch individually. How do I enable Micro-Tuning?
Micro-Tuning Your Cyber-Tone Electronic Pitch Pipe
The Cyber-Tone Electronic Pitch Pipe is factory-tuned to A=440 Hz in perfect equal temperament. However, there may be instances where you need to adjust a note sharper or flatter. With Micro-Tuning, you can individually fine-tune each note to within 1/100th of a semitone (cent), making it possible to customize your Cyber-Tone for specific musical needs. For example, orchestras often tune to A=442 Hz, which is 8 cents above A=440 Hz. A very good musician can begin to distinguish the difference between two pitches played successively if they are 5 or more cents apart. The Cyber-Tone is significantly more accurate than you can hear. You are only limited by your imagination here.
Steps to Micro-Tune a Note
- Activate Sticky Tone mode for the note you want to tune:
- Quickly press the desired note 5 times in succession to begin continuous playback.
- Enter Micro-Tuning mode:
- Hold F and E together for 3 seconds, then release.
- Adjust the pitch as follows:
- Press F to raise the pitch by 1 cent.
- Press F# to raise the pitch by 10 cents.
- Press E to lower the pitch by 1 cent.
- Press E♭ to lower the pitch by 10 cents.
- Save and exit Micro-Tuning™ mode:
- Slide the power switch to Off to save the changes. Your Cyber-Tone will retain these settings for future use.
- Repeat for additional notes as needed.
Important Notes:
- Resetting Notes:
- To reset all notes back to factory tuning, hold F – A – C – E together for 3 seconds while your Cyber-Tone is powered on. Turn it off to save the factory reset.
- Tuning Range Limit:
- Each note can be tuned up to 100 cents sharp or flat.
- If you lose track of adjustments, tune the note fully sharp or flat, then adjust back to zero from that position.
- Alternatively, reset all notes to factory settings using the F – A – C – E method.
Check out our Pitch Calculator to help with translating between cents and frequency played.
Example:
If a note is tuned 95 cents sharp and you press F# again, the adjustment will stop at 100 cents sharp. To return to zero, press E♭ ten times.
